MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Prairie Family Business Association recently hosted its annual North Dakota Family Business Forum at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, which was attended by 95 family business leaders and family business advisors.

The presentations:

• Featured keynote speaker Phil Clemens presented the seven destructive traps of family business and described steps to avoid these pitfalls.
• Carolyn Thompson, founder of Thompson Law, went over how and why to do succession planning and gave a testimony about how she did it for her own business.
• Julie Peterson Klein, EVP/chief culture officer at Bell Bank, presented the culture and philosophy the bank carries out each day.
• The husband and wife team of Ciara and Jim Stockeland talked about their business, MODE Fashion Retailers, and how they have succeeded by being intentional about their business planning and their approach to daily family life.

“The North Dakota Family Business Forum is an opportunity for regional family business leaders and advisors to come together for a day of learning. Attendees learned how to plan for success in their current generation of family leaders and how to best prepare for the next generation,” said Stephanie Larscheid, executive director of Prairie Family Business Association. “Attendees left equipped with information and action for their next family meeting, board meeting or executive team meeting.”
